- The magnitude of our sin; the terrible price paid for it.
- The fact that sin can't escape punishment. Either we are credited with Christ's punishment and payment of it, or else we must pay for it ourselves with "eternal punishment."
- Christ was willing to suffer for you personally to bring you to Himself.
- If God loved you when you were His enemy, how much more is willing to protect and provide for you now that you are His friend (Rom. 5:5-6)
- Christ gave Himslef up for you. Are you willing to give yourself up for Him?
- Christ endured embarrassment for you, are you willing to endure the jeers of the world for Him?
- Christ's whole life and death involved humility and service for others. The cross is the supreme example of this. Are you and I willing to be humble and to serve others?
- Notice how expensive salvation is--and how much suffering it cost the Lord Jesus Christ. Are you grateful for your salvation? Do you treasure your relationship with Christ? Do you value eternal things?
- Christ died up on a cross, off the ground. He died between heaven and earth. Jesus is thus portrayed in His death as the bridge to heaven. He is the Way To God, the Father. He is the means of eternal riches. Jesus lived in both heaven and earth, and died pictorially beteen both. He is the God-Man who lived in both worlds and thought that the heavenly world was so much better, that He considered it worth suffering in this world a whole lifetime in order to have riches in the eternal world. We are Jesus' riches. Do we act like it? Do we live like we are Jesus' treasure? Does this not give us a great sense of worth to be Jesus' treasure?
- Since Jesus bought us He therefore owns us. We have no right to do whatever we want; we must live for Him who bought us with His precious blood. We have no claim on our own lives, no real "rights" as far as He is concerned. We do ourselves the most good when we obey God, for He wants only to bless us.
- Christ is our supreme example when we are mistreated by others. Whenever we suffer for doing right we should think of Christ who never took any form of revenge (1 Peter 2:21-23)
