Chapter 24: "The Apocalypse of Isaiah"

1. Is the judgment described in vv. 1-6 local or universal?

2. Write out the various expressions for the God's destruction of the earth in 24:1, 3, 4, 12 and 25:2.

3. What are the various descriptions of God's wrath upon the people of the earth? (vv. 1, 2, 4, 6)

4. What is predicted in 24:7-11?

5. In view of vv. 15-16 will there be any believers on the earth at this time?

6. What is taught in vv. 17-18?

7. What does Isaiah predict in vv. 19-22?

8. What things are predicted in v. 23? At what time period would you place the events of this chapter?


9. Look at the section in 25:6-9. What is described in verse 6? What practice in the church points to this? Where did Christ refer to this event?

10. What is the New Testament counterpart to 25:8?

11. What is the subject of 25:9? How does this passage teach the deity of Christ?

12. Chapter 26 is like a Psalm. What qualities from this chapter should believers exhibit?

13. How many times does Isaiah teach the resurrection in 26:19? What are the various expressions used here?

14. Isaiah 26:20-21 - What are God's people instructed to do to be spared during the great pouring out of wrath at the close of the Great Tribulation?

15. Who is Leviathan of 27:1?

16. How does the punishment of Leviathan in 27:1 relate to 26:20-21? (Note the parallel in 24:21.) Does this follow the pattern of events in Revelation 19 and 20:2-3

17. From the context, what is the foreign tongue (same as "stammering lips") of 28:11? What does it speak of in this passage? When God speaks to Israel in a foreign tongue, is it a sign of blessing or judgment? When God restores Israel He will not speak to them again this way (Isaiah 33:19).

18. What are six facts concerning the stone of 28:16? Where is this passage mentioned in the New Testament? (33:19)

The words "costly cornerstone" (NASB) is literally in the Hebrew "cornerstone of preciousness"

19. What is the main point of the poem about the farmer in 28:23-28?

20. The phrasing of 28:29 is reminiscent of which of Christ's titles in 9:6? What is the context here? (See previous question.)

21. What is the warning of 31:1-3? What are the contrasts here?

23. What is 32:1 referring to?

24. When the Spirit is poured out (32:15) what kinds of changes will take place? During what time period do you place the events of 32:15-18?

26. Which words and phrases in this chapter give indication of worldwide scope of this judgment?

27. Where does chapter 35 describe the return of Christ? What do 35:5-6 describe?

Chapter 36

29. Read chapters 36 and 37. What did Isaiah predict regarding Sennacherib in v. 7?
