Chapters 13-23

1. Is the judgment described in chapter 13 local or universal, or both? What verses decide this for you? From what He said in Matthew 24:29, what did our Lord believe about the event of 13:10? (Was it fulfilled historically and hyperbolically, or is it future and literal?) See also Revelation 6:12-13, 8:12. Isaiah elaborates on 13:11 in chapter 24 (the whole chapter).

2. What are the specific prophecies in 14:1-2? Are these prophecies eschatological or were they fulfilled at the time of the return from Babylonian captivity? (See also Deuteronomy 4:29-31 and Leviticus 26:40-45).

3. What is the chief sin of the king of Babylon described in 14:4-21? (vv. 13-14) What are the five I wills in this passage?


Chapter 19: The Conversion of Egypt and Assyria

4. Where is the conversion of Egypt promised in chapter 19? Do you think that Zech. 12:10 is describing a similar experience with the Jews?

5. What is predicted in 19:23-25?


6. In chapter 20 Isaiah is directed to become an object lesson. What is he illustrating by this difficult task?

7. How is Christ foreshadowed in the promises made to Eliakim in 22:20-24?
