FOUR LINES OF EVIDENCE FOR THE TRUTHFULNESS AND UNIQUENESS OF SCRIPTURE
It is a fallacy to believe that we can lead anyone to conversion by "proving" the Bible to themit is theologically wrong to try to do this, and it doesn't work. The truthfulness of Scripture is not dependent on our ability to set up tests and then apply Scripture to these tests. The fact is that Scripture is true whether or not we recognize it and man in his fallen state is not morally or mentally neutral towards the things of God and is hence in no position to adequately assess the veracity of Scripture. There are, however, some things that bear witness to the truthfulness of Scripture:
- History The names of scores of people, places, cities, and rulers have been identified through various historical records.
Examples: Abraham, Jacob, Sodom, Jericho, Hezekiah,
Omri, etc.
- Archaeology Artifacts from a broad spectrum of geography and time attest to the veracity of the cities, rulers, people, and customs mentioned in the Bible.
Changed Lives No one can deny that lives have been transformed by the power of God through Scripture.
How many people claim that they became atheists and that their denial of God enabled them to become better husbands or wives, sons or daughters? How many atheistic hunger relief agencies can you think of?
Fulfilled Bible Prophecies No unbeliever has any credible explanation for the fulfillment of dozens of prophecies of Scripture. Fulfilled predictions regarding the first coming of Christ are especially powerful, especially such stunning passages as Isaiah 53 and Zech. 12:10, etc.
