Heavenly Reward

Metaphors of Believer's Heavenly Reward

Heaven is compared to:

  1. A City (Hebrews 11:10, 16) - Emphasis on orderliness and all sufficiency.

  2. A House (John 14:2-3) - Emphasis on the family-love relationship of a home

  3. A Kingdom (Matthew 25:34) - Emphasis on the rule and security

  4. Rest (Hebrews 4:9) - Emphasis on the lack of warfare or effort necessary for protection or provision

  5. A Garden (Isaiah 35:1-2; Rev. 22:1-5) - Emphasis on beauty and removal of the curse

  6. Paradise (Luke 23:43) - Emphasis on enjoyment and pleasure

Questions to Ponder:

  1. What are the four qualities of heaven found in 1 Peter 1:4?

  2. Will there be any sorrow there (i.e., for lost loved ones, etc.)? Could people get bored in heaven?

  3. Will our rewards in heaven be better than anything this world has to offer (2 Cor. 4:17)? Will anyone say that heaven isn't as good as they had expected?

  4. What even in John's gospel illustrates the fact that God saves the best things for last?

  5. Will there be different degrees of rewards in heaven? (give verses)

  6. What are some things that believers will be rewarded for?
